Patton (The Generals) Tenacity in Action - By Agostino von Hassell

This biography of Patton I found to be an amazing portrayal of Patton the man, not Patton the General. I loved how Hassell and Breslin gave so much detailed information on Patton's family history. He showed a major reason Patton was so drawn to the military and how he was raised there after. I enjoyed reading the Introduction much in part because my grandfather served under Patton in WWII and always said he was "one tough son of a bitch", which is the only way to put the phrase in quote, especially since Patton had his own foulness when it came to language.

In the introduction, the movie was explained and also pointed out the misconceptions of Patton from the picture. I remember as a child watching that movie over and over again with my grandfather, and he said it was a good movie but a little misconstrued. Patton was a very tactical man and very cunning at all strategies he used. He was not book smart, other then in the military readings, such as English and mathematics, but pushed himself to overcome his weaknesses.

This book is beautifully written in a way that you feel as though Gen. Patton is sitting right there telling you a story and you can't wait for the next chapter of his life. He was a man intent on achieving his destiny, but also his own weight, dragging himself down. He rose to any occasion to be the best leader for his men. Although, some of his tactics with his men were very unorthodox, I was always told, from someone who was there, "that was just his way of keeping us safe." Patton did have one of the lowest casualty counts during the war. I believe myself that is because of his way of being a leader.

I have a love for history, especially from WWI because of my grandfather and his stories. However, this is an magnificent biography of one of the most important figures of the time. I would, and have already recommended it to many of my friends who love to read as I do myself.

Disclosure of Material: I received a complimentary copy of Patton (The Generals) Tenacity in Action - By Agostino von Hassell as a member of the Booksneeze.com Book Review Team. I was given the book solely for my honest opinion(s), and review.
