I always get excited when I get to try new things for the kids. I love coloring books, you can teach so much from a single coloring book. You can teach shapes, colors, animals, etc... We always pick through the coloring books looking for letters. This book is great because every page has letters on it along with pictures that start with that letter.
I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and a 5 year old son and they both loved this book. We do a lot of teaching in our house with the kids' disabilities and delays, so this was perfect! My son knows his letters but is having trouble writing. He loved to trace the letters on the pages and when I covered the letters he told me what letter the pictures began with. Of course, I flipped through the book randomly. My daughter had a blast also, I always find ways to make learning fun (or they won't do it lol). She has no expressive communication so she just points. If I show her the page with a mouse on it I say what sound does MMMmmmouse start with, and of course she says MMMMMMMMMMMMM. That is how I get different sounds and words out of her! She only has a vocabulary of about 30 words, and she makes some animal sounds.
Tools like this book can be used in so many more ways than just coloring. I love that the main focus is the letters, and the pictures starting with that letter, and also it spells out the name of the picture such as Ring or Mouse etc... This makes some of my job much easier. I used to make my own ABC books up with different pictures I would print and paste into a booklet that I would tie with yarn. This one is more fun for them because they can color it!
I have already recommended this book to my son's head start teacher, and hopefully they find ti as useful as I have! A few of my friends children like this book too. I love being able to add to our Box O' Fun I call it. That is our box of educational material we play, write, and create with everyday!
